OXFORD — Fire marshals have charged a suspect in the fire this week at the Oxford Meadows apartment complex.
Timothy C. Williams Jr., 29, was arrested by investigators Thursday evening, charged with arson and taken to the Oxford County Jail, according to a statement by Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
According to WGME, resident Barbra Roy said she woke up to a fire alarm ringing about Tuesday morning, opened her door and found the newspaper that had been delivered was on fire. The fire blocked her exit, but she put it out with water and left the apartment building, according to McCausland’s statement.
No one was injured, but about 40 residents had to be evacuated.
Williams lived across the hall from where the fire was set, according to McCausland. Investigators said he was mad at another tenant in the building.
The fire was reported just before 4 a.m.
This is the second fire at the apartment complex in a year. Last May, one resident died and another was seriously injured when an accidential fire broke out. It took months of renovations before residents could return to their apartments.
