LITCHFIELD — Bernadette “Bernie” Rita Grenier Adkins passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 25, with family members by her side. Cancer may have been how she died, but it never touched her spirit.
Bernie was born in Lewiston on May 4, 1963. She was one of nine children, two of whom passed long ago: Jeffrey and George. She was born to the late Earl and Lucille Grenier. She graduated from Lewiston High School and USM, where she earned her college degree.
Bernie lived in Maine for many years, working in banking and then with Floor Systems, always a dedicated employee. She eventually moved to Texas and married Blane Adkins, endlessly his love and guiding light. They shared a passion for bowling, belonging to both local and travel leagues and were loved by their bowling family. Bernie was a dog lover and her faithful companion, Levi, was by her side through it all.
She worked 10 years as a logistics manager for Texas Recycling, and was an integral part of their family-owned business — they loved her and were so supportive through her journey, and she will be greatly missed.
Bernie was one of the most courageous women you will have ever known, and those who had the privilege to call her family or friend knew her strength — she would want us to carry her light on with bravery in her honor.
Bernie is survived by her loving husband, Blane Adkins; his daughters, Ilse Brianna Adkins, husband, Chris Doyle, and grandchildren, Taya and Ryan, Anastasia Adkins, Lyssa Wyman and her siblings, Helene St. Hilaire (who generously raised her) and Jeanne Grenier Gibson and husband, Mike Gibson; Marc Grenier and wife, Terry Grenier; Louis Grenier and wife, Lynn Grenier; Rock Grenier and wife, Linette Grenier; Annie Grenier Wright and husband, Ray Wright. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, Dennis St. Hilaire, Earl St. Hilaire, Lu Ann Frenette, Jameson Moyer, her beloved godchild, Erika Grenier Dufour, Teneitra Grenier, Craig Grenier, and Eric Grenier; as well as 17 great-nieces and -nephews.
She was predeceased by two nieces, Brooke Grenier and Tiffany Grenier.
