CHESTERVILLE — An 11-year-old girl was injured Thursday when a car and a Regional School Unit 9 bus collided head-on on Route 41, Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. David Rackliffe said.
Brittany Dugal, 18, of Thorndike, failed to stop at a stop sign on Route 156 and drove into the front of the bus, which was on a bridge, Rackliffe said. She was issued a summons for failing to stop at a stop sign.
The bus driven by Alycia Stevens, 33, of New Sharon was carrying 22 children, Rackliffe said.
The 11-year-old girl from New Sharon complained of pain and was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to a Farmington hospital. The girl’s name was not available.
RSU 9 sent another bus to the scene and most of the students were transferred to it, while others were picked up by parents, Rackliffe said. RSU 9 staff oversaw the transfer.
The bus received significant damage but could be driven from the scene.
The car was demolished and towed, Rackliffe said.
