LEWISTON — The opening reception for the ninth annual Student Art Show was held April 29 at Wicked Illustrations Studio and Gallery.
The show is held in conjunction with Lewiston Public Schools and is curated by Kate Cargile, art teacher at Lewiston Middle, and Melanie Therrien, art teacher at Wicked Illustrations.
There were more than 90 pieces on display. Best in Show and Honorable Mentions were awarded in three age groups. This year’s judges were Sheri Hollenbeck, founder of the Hive Artisan Co-op, Alexandra Hood, Olin Arts Center, and Aiden Hinkley, artist and co-chair of the Pride Committee.
The work will be on display during May.
Grades Kindergarten through four
Best: Nathan Beaulieu for a self portrait, a student of Kelsey Rodrigue.
Honorable: Sophia Brown for “Frogs on a Log,” a student of Melanie Therrien; and Payton Rose for “My Dream Place,” a student Melanie Therrien.
Grades five to seven
Best: Angel Tancrede for “Animal Love,” a student of Melanie Therrien.
Honorable: Ishan Reese for “Spreading My Wings,” a student of Melanie Therrien; and Aaron White, for a dragon sculpture, a student of Kate Cargile.
Grades eight to 12
Best: Camryn Leblanc for “Elephant,” a student of Kyna Pitula.
Honorable: Eva Rockwell, “Color Study,” a student of Kyna Pitula, and Madison Laflamme for “Piece of Paradise,” Teacher Melanie Therrien.
