BATH (AP) — Maine’s oldest functioning wooden fishing schooner has returned to the state.
The Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/2p7SZiQ) that the Mary E arrived at its new home, the Maine Maritime Museum, on Sunday. The vessel was built on the Kennebec River by Bath native Thomas E. Hagan in 1906. It has been used as a fishing vessel and mail carrier over the years.
The Maine Maritime Museum bought the boat from a New York man.
Museum officials say the Mary E will be restored before it is relaunched in 2018. It was previously restored on museum grounds between 1965 and 1967.
