WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church announces its Sunday services for this May. Sunday worship services explore and share various faith practices. Services are at 9 a.m. All are welcome.
Finding Hope, May 7: This “Spring Music” Sunday service will be led by Jim Burke and the Worship Service Committee. There will be some new songs as well as many old favorites.
Is Covenant a Verb? May 14: This service is led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Covenants have been used to establish religious communities since Biblical times. The pilgrims covenanted with each other to establish their churches, and today every Unitarian Universalist church is based on a covenant. This service is also the church’s “New Member Sunday.”
South Paris service, 10 a.m., May 21: The First Universalist Church of West Paris congregation will be attending worship services at the South Paris Unitarian Universalist Church, at 36 Pine St.
The Quality of Mercy, May 28: This service is led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. According to Webster’s Dictionary, mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm. Abraham Lincoln said, “I have always found that mercy bears richer fruits than strict justice.” This service will be an exploration of the quality of mercy and its place in lives today.
