Season outlook: The Patriots’ girls’ team is coming off a successful season, including a conference title, and returns an accomplished veteran group with state success at indoor and outdoor championships. With those returners and an infusion of freshman and sophomore talent included among the nearly 50-strong roster, the Gray-NG girls should be solid in all areas — throws, jumps, sprints and distance running. Mercer says the boys team has “interesting potential.” From relays to jumps to hurdles to distance, the Patriots have a chance to be competitive at the conference meet, if, Mercer said, they are willing to put in the work. A pair of track newcomers, Matt Cote and Joe Gurney, give the boys’ team to have success in throwing events similar to that which the girls’ team has enjoyed over the years.
