AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced its upcoming children’s programs for the month of April. 

Sprouts Program: 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturdays, April 8, 15, 22 and 29, in the Children’s room. The library will host a lap-sit program for newborns through 36 months and their caregivers. Attendees will gather on the story quilt with Heather for songs, nursery rhymes and dancing while making new friends. There will be no Sprouts on April 1.

Sweet Peas: 10:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays, April 3, 10 and 24, in the Children’s Room on the story quilt. Heather will lead the lap-sit program for children ages 24 to 36 months with stories, songs, rhythm instruments, fingerplays and flannel board fun on the story quilt. This program is designed for families; agencies and child care groups may contact the library to schedule group visits at another time.

Preschool Story Time: 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, April 5, 12, 19 and 26, in the Children’s Room. The library offers a preschool story program for children ages 3 to 5.

Lego Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 7, in the Maggie Trafton Room. The library will provide the space and the Legos for kids ages 5 and older on the first Friday of every month. Space is limited so the program will be run on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents and caregivers should be advised that there will be small pieces that could present a choking hazard; this program is not suitable for very young children. 

Read to a Dog: 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 6, in the Children’s Room. Kids can practice their reading skills while reading to Addie, a dog owned by Susan Farrell. Registration is required.

Family Place Play & Learn: 10 to 11:15 a.m. Fridays, April 7, 14, 21, and 28, in the Maggie Trafton Room. As part of the Family Place Initiative, the Auburn Public Library will hold a free parenting/playgroup series for parents and their young children ages 1 to 3.

Tweens DIY Collage and Blackout Poetry: 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. Tweens, ages 8 to 12, may celebrate National Poetry Month by creating one-of-a-kind collage poems or blackout poems.

Vacation Lego Club: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the Maggie Trafton Room. The library will supply the Legos for a special meeting of the Lego club. 

Drop-in Paper Plate Crafts: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Maggie Trafton Room. Edward Little High School student Madison Hopping and Corinna will make owls, frogs, rainbows and pizza out of paper plates. This event, geared for children in grades kindergarten through third, is free, and all materials are provided by the library. 

BUGS! BUGS! BUGS!: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Local bug enthusiast Jon Wallace will teach kids about the different live insects he raises. During this program, children will get to see insects up-close (if they dare), learn about their amazing behaviors and adaptations, and find out why they are considered the most successful group of creatures that ever lived.

Free Family Movie — “Sing!”: 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, April 21, in the Androscoggin Community Room. The movie showing is free, and juice and crackers will be provided. Parents must stay with their children during the movie.

Wednesday Crafternoon Fairy Houses: 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the Children’s Room. The library will host a drop-in crafting program on the fourth Wednesday of the month for children in grades 2 through 6. This month, participants will make fairy houses. All materials will be provided by the library.

The Library will be closed on Monday, April 17, in observance of Patriots Day.
