PARIS — The Oxford County commissioners voted recently to accept a resignation letter from Oxford County Jail Administrator Ed Quinn.

County Administrator Scott Cole said Quinn had held a variety of posts at the jail over the years, and that his initial employment was May 1980.

“That’s around the same time that Mount St. Helens blew up,” Cole said with a laugh. “He’s seen an awful lot, and it’s always interesting to hear his thoughts. He plays the role of sage around here. He’s seen it all before.”

Cole said Quinn’s last day will be sometime near the end of May.

In other business, Cole said that the commissioners voted to allow ATVs to drive on East B Hill Road.

“The East B Hill Road is a westerly road that goes up through the mountains to Upton,” Cole said. “The (Letter B Notch Riders) ATV Club in Upton asked for permission to use ATVs on that road.”

Cole said that under state law, town officials can designate certain local roads as “ATV allowable, as long as there is proper signage.”

“It’s a county-maintained road, funded by the county’s unorganized territory account, so the commissioners considered the proposal and approved it,” Cole said. “We’ll be putting up some signs that will put drivers on notice and let them know that they may see ATVs on the road.”
