High tunnel workshop March 29
FARMINGTON — University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer a high tunnel management workshop from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the UMaine Extension office, 138 Pleasant St., Suite 1.
Extension vegetable specialist Mark Hutton and insect diagnostician Clay Kirby will discuss high tunnel management, integrated pest management, irrigation and fertigation.
The workshop will be held simultaneously at Extension offices in Oxford and Somerset Counties by web conferencing.
Cost is $10. Registration is required, and, in Farmington, limited to 20 attendees. Participants will be eligible for two pesticide certification credits upon completion of the workshop.

‘Grandparents Raising Grandchildren’
NORWAY — Stephens Memorial Hospital and the MaineHealth Learning Resource Center will offer “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren — Oh My!”
This workship is for those who are raising a second set of children at a time when they thought they would be planning retirement.
Laurie Cavanaugh, CPSP, Regional Parent Support Coordinator, will discuss specific issues that may be challenging for grandparents today and uncover ideas and solutions for greater success and less stress.
This class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the Harper Conference Center located in the Ripley Medical Office Building.
Registration is required. There is no cost for this program.

‘Wetlands of the Mahoosuc Region’
BETHEL — Mahoosuc Land Trust will present “Wetlands of the Mahoosuc Region” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the McLaughlin Auditorium on church Street.
The presentation is part of the trust’s Speaker Series.

‘Gardening Forever’ lecture at McLaughlin
PARIS — The sixth lecture in the McLaughlin Garden’s series will be by Maine AgrAbility on Wednesday, March 29. Ellen Gibson of West Paris will speak on “Gardening Forever.”
AgrAbility provides information and technical assistance to farmers and gardeners who have injuries, pain or disabilities. Gardening can take a toll on the body while aging, back pain, arthritis, and other physical issues can provide limitations.
This workshop demonstrates how subtle changes in work practices can reduce stress and strain. It will cover the difference between physical activity and exercise, assistive technology, conserving mental and physical energy, and avoiding slips, trips and falls. Ergonomic gardening tools will be demonstrated and participants will receive information for how to order tools and find further resources.
The lecture will be at 4 p.m. in Bernard McLaughlin’s historic home, 97 Main St. Tea will begin at 3:30 p.m. There is no fee to attend, but donations are requested.
