PARIS — A Lewiston man was sentenced Friday morning in Oxford County Superior Court to 180 days to the Department of Corrections on a charge of unlawful trafficking in cocaine.
Willis Joseph, 29, of 88 Bartlett St., pleaded guilty to the charge.
As part of the plea agreement, Assistant Attorney General David Fisher told Active-Retired Justice Robert Clifford that the state would dismiss charges of refusing to submit to arrest and operating a vehicle without a license, both misdemeanors.
Fisher pointed out that Joseph would receive credit for time served, and that since his arrest in September, he had served 189 days, meaning his credit will cover all his sentence.
“We also discovered that he has a warrant out for a parole violation in New York, so he’ll have to deal with that,” Fisher said.
If the case had gone to trial, Fisher said that he would have called Oxford Sgt. Rickie Jack as a witness.
Fisher said that on the night of Sept. 2, 2016, Jack stopped a vehicle operated by Joseph.
“Upon speaking with Mr. Joseph, Jack noticed that Joseph looked extremely nervous,” Fisher said. “He asked Joseph to get out of the car, and when he did, he took off running.”
Joseph dropped a plastic baggie containing 30 grams of cocaine, Jack reported.
Fisher said Joseph was eventually arrested at a Super 8 Motel in Lewiston.
