The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 1. No appointment is needed because numbers will be given at the door. There will be makeup and hair demonstrations, along with shoes and prom jewelry to choose while girls wait to go upstairs and find a gown. Email camashaw@myfairpoint.net if you have questions. — Carol Mashaw, WLU events chairwoman.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing to you about people who won’t stop for the school bus at stops. I have an idea, put a flagger on the school bus with a stop sign on both sides of the sign to help stop the drivers on both sides of the road or street. What do you think? — G. Racine, Auburn.

ANSWER: A very interesting thought. In some states, such as California, the school bus driver actually leaves the bus to escort children across the street themselves. This, of course, means leaving children unsupervised on the bus for a short time. But sometimes there are adult aides on school buses in addition to the bus driver, so perhaps an aide could double as a flagger when needed. Or there could be a volunteer crossing guard, like a parent, at each school bus stop.

One thing is for sure, we can all do our part by stopping our vehicles for school buses with flashing lights.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have several large framed Maine Duck Stamps, including winners of the contest. I am looking to sell these and once had them appraised by an artist (now deceased) as being worth over a thousand dollars. If someone is interested in the purchase, I am willing to send them copies of the stamps, their framing and double matting to get the ball rolling. Please contact me via email, pjb417@twc.com. — Peter, Auburn.

ANSWER: If anyone is interested in purchasing these stamps, please contact Peter. Here are a couple of businesses in Maine that purchase stamps:

* M.A. Storck Company Coin & Stamp Shop, 651 Forest Ave., Portland, 207-774-7271.

* Downeast Stamps, an auction house serving stamp collectors and dealers, 52 Fern St., Bangor, 207-942-3825.
