Warren Slattery, left, and his cousin Wayne Slattery run a sap line through the woods in Minot on Wednesday. The line will collect sap from 10 maple trees and feed the sap to a larger main line. Wayne Slattery has about 7,000 taps and only 700 are connected to the metal buckets seen throughout New England this time of year. The vacuum-based lines pull sap to one of five collection locations, where the Slatterys will gather it before making maple syrup at the West Minot Sugarhouse. Wayne Slattery said he has made about 400 gallons of maple syrup so far this sugaring season.
