I write in response to the letter from Tere Porter (Feb. 24). He responded to a story in the Sun Journal, “Electoral vote change in state?” (Feb. 18), concerning proposed changes to how Maine’s electors for the Electoral College would be chosen.
Whatever happened to one man/one vote and majority wins? Porter’s statistics may be accurate; nevertheless, what he suggests defies this basic principle of democracy. Was he advocating that a vote in Maine is worth more than one in New York City? That is not democracy. History proves the opposite — that is, dictators win when the majority is ignored.
What is myopic is the reverse.
Should a rural voter expect to jump higher than a city one? Now really.
