AUGUSTA — Second-seeded AR Gould scored the first points of Saturday’s Class D South boys’ final on a Issak Aliyow 3-pointer.
Top-seeded Greenville scored the next 16, and the Lakers were just getting started en route to a 69-33 win at the Augusta Civic Center.
It is the first regional title for Greenville (20-1), which will face Machias for the state title next Saturday at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. AR Gould, which drew four technical fouls during the game, ends its season with a 17-4 record.
Greenville’s Nick Foley led all scorers with 25 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and was named the tournament’s most outstanding player. Connor DiAngelo added 13 for the Lakers. Aliyow led the Bears with 16 points.
Aliyow started the second quarter the same way he started the game, with a 3-pointer. Sure enough, it was another bad omen for the Bears, who watched the Lakers outscore them, 17-6, the rest of the period to take a 33-12 lead at halftime.
Three-pointers by Evan Bjork and DiAngelo sparked a 12-0 Greenville run to start the second half that put the game away.
