Hot Dogs N’Hockey at Hippach Field
FARMINGTON — A celebration of Hippach’s new ice rink will take place Tuesday, Feb. 28, with Hot Dogs N’ Hockey from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., ice conditions and weather permitting. The Farmington Recreation Department will be cooking up hot dogs and serving hot chocolate for free.
They will bring down a big screen TV to watch the Bruins game at 7 p.m. and the rest of the time there will be pick up pond hockey played. This event is for all ages and players without skates or sticks can rent equipment for free.
This year, the Rec Department has been receiving large groups of hockey enthusiasts on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday hockey nights and want to show their appreciation to the community. Reservations are required.

PARIS — Floyd A. Harlow Jr. Post 9787, VFW, will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at 58 East Main St.
Texas Hold Em’ poker
PARIS — The AMVETS’s monthly Texas Hold Em’ poker tournaments are held at 6 p.m. on the first Friday of the month at the VFW Hall at 58 East Main St.
Next Tournament will be Friday, March 3.
The doors and the kitchen will open at 5 p.m. There will be a 50/50 raffle.

Card-making workshop in Jay
JAY — A card-making workshop, a Relay for Life fundraiser, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Jay Niles Memorial Library.
Pre-registration is required by March 4. The $30 registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and supplies to create 20 cards and one project. There will also be raffles.

Father/Daughter Dance March 4
JAY/PHILLIPS — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will hold two simultaneous Father Daughter Dances from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 4.
One dance will take place at the Jay Middle School Gym, and the other will take place at the Phillips Elementary School.
Anyone wishing to purchase advance tickets may do so at Calico Patch in Farmington, The Flower Barn in Jay, Edmunds in Phillips or The White Elephant in Strong. One ticket covers both Father and his daughter(s). The cost per ticket is $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
Our DJs this year will be Down the Dirt Road in Jay and Chris Keith in Phillips.

New Sharon ice fishing derby
NEW SHARON — Cape Cod Hill School’s ice fishing derby will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 4, on Crowell Pond on Route 41.
Tickets will cost $5 per person or $20 per family. Tickets will be available the day of the event.
There will be trophies for the biggest perch, pickerel and bass and $100 cash prize for the largest brook trout.
Proceeds will support student learning at Cape Cod Hill School.

DNA testing Genealogical Society
FARMINGTON — The Sandy River Valley Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at the Farmington Public Library.
Jim King, the organization’s president, will present an overview of DNA testing. King will explain the different types of DNA tests and review the four largest testing companies. For those researching their ancestry, DNA test results might help solve genealogical “brick walls.”
The public is invited to attend. SRVC collects, exchanges, preserves and publishes genealogical records, related documents and information. The group maintains a genealogical library and encourages those with an interest in genealogy to join their meetings.
