TURNER — The Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday night to move forward with a property revaluation, the first in 20 years.
The cost is estimated at $200,000. There is $40,000 available.
Voters will decide at the town meeting April 19 whether to raise another $60,000. The remaining $100,000 will not be due until fiscal year 2019.
According to Town Manager Kurt Schaub, the revaluation may lower taxes overall.
He said the board decided on a firm but has not confirmed it with that company.
State Rep. Jeffrey Timberlake, R-Turner, attended the meeting to discuss problems at the Snell Hill traffic signal. The light should stay green for traffic on Route 4, except for when a car approaches on Snell Hill Road.
Residents have complained that the signal is activating in the middle of the night, causing unnecessary waiting when there is no traffic on Snell Hill Road.
The board asked Timberlake to take the issue to the Maine Department of Transportation.
Timberlake agreed to request that the light be set to a flashing yellow on Route 4 and flashing red on Snell Hill Road between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
