AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A trial is underway for a former youth ministry program official in Canaan whose charged with unlawful sexual contact with a young girl.

The Kennebec Journal reported (http://bit.ly/2mb2yvv ) the 12-year-old girl testified on Tuesday that Lucas Savage, who was co-director of Youth Haven Ministry, touched her inappropriately while she was in bed with him and his wife at their Clinton home three years ago.

Prosecutors say Savage carried the girl to the bedroom and inappropriately touched her while “spooning.”

Police say the girl reported Savage touched her inappropriately about 30 times. She said they had also exchanged “secret kisses.”

Savage has pleaded not guilty. His attorney, Pamela Ames, told jurors the girl is “very disturbed” and made up the story.

The trial is scheduled to run through Wednesday.
