CHAPIN, S.C. — John Duncan Shaughnessy of Bowdoin passed away Friday, Jan. 27, after a period of declining health at the age of 69.
He was born in Lewiston on July 12, 1947, the son of John and Ruth “Tiny” Stover Shaughnessy.
John graduated from Lisbon High School in the Class of 1965, attending Husson College in Bangor. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1970 and was an air traffic controller, then working for the Federal Aviation Administration at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick. John retired from Bath Iron Works in 2010 after 28 years.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Schwanger, on Sept. 2, 1967. John was a past master of American Legion Ancient York Lodge 155 in Lisbon Falls and a charter member of Down East Street Rods. His passion was restoring antique cars, street rods and spending time at his camp.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Kristie Thrower and her husband, Tracy, of Chapin, S.C., and Kellie Gorman and her husband, Paul, of Westbrook; and his beloved granddaughters, Kellie and Addison Thrower.
