AUBURN — A Greene man accused of kidnapping and sexually abusing a 14-year-old autistic girl pleaded not guilty to six charges Friday morning in Lewiston District Court.
Travis Therrien, 35, of 411 College St. was arrested in January and charged with kidnapping, two counts of gross sexual assault, sexual abuse of a minor, unlawful sexual contact and criminal restraint.
The kidnapping, gross sexual assault and sexual abuse of a minor charges are felonies, while the unlawful sexual contact and criminal restraint charges are misdemeanors.
Edward Rabasco, the attorney representing Therrien on Friday, said that he would not argue bail today, but reserved the right to argue it at a later time.
At the time of the arrest, bail was set at $5,000 cash, or $10,000 single surety.
The girl told a Sabattus police officer that on Dec. 8 she was standing in the parking lot of Wal-Mart when a man in a dark blue Chevrolet pickup truck asked her if she needed a ride. She told him she needed to go to Motel 6, but the man drove her to his duplex apartment instead, according to an affidavit written by an Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department detective.
According to the affidavit, the girl told police that Therrien “forced her to have sex with him against her will.”
She was later able to identify the building where Therrien took her, and accurately describe furnishings in his residence, including a fish tank and a framed photograph on the wall.
A conference with a judge and attorneys for both sides to discuss whether there will be a plea agreement or a trial is scheduled for April 18.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Detective Thomas Slivinski at 207-753-2567.
Travis Therrien pleaded not guilty Friday morning in Lewiston District Court to felony counts of kidnapping, gross sexual assault and sexual abuse of a minor, and misdemeanor charges of unlawful sexual touching and criminal restraint.
