Several inches of snow had accumulated in Lewiston by 9 a.m. Tuesday.
GRAY — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 6 a.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday, with the possibility of 6 inches of snow across central Maine.
Meteorologist Andy Pohl of the National Weather Service said to expect 3 to 5 inches of snow and a 10th of an inch of ice on top of that.
“It’ll start with snow in the late morning and increase through the afternoon and the evening,” he said. “It will probably be late evening before we see ice pellets and freezing rain.”
Auburn announced a parking ban for 9 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday.
Temperatures are expected to stay in the low 20s with wind speeds of 5-15 mph.
“The good news,” Pohl said, “is that Wednesday is going to be warm, in the 40s. It’ll get rid of the ice pretty quickly, maybe even some extra.”
The National Weather Service says that the Tuesday evening commute will be particularly treacherous in areas that received snow and mixed precipitation. They suggest allowing extra time for travel.
Check local weather and road conditions before traveling.
