1921 – 2017
SOUTH PARIS — Alfred J. “Al” Richard, 95, formerly of Mexico, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.
He was born Nov. 11, 1921, one of 10 children to Wilfred and Ida (LeMay) Richard in Newry.
Al proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.
He was employed for 38 years with the Oxford Paper Co. Al was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. He was a life member of the VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a member of the American Legion and the Snowshoe Club. Al enjoyed golfing, skiing and was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.
Surviving are his children, Judi Fuller of Atlanta, Ga., Beverly Newcomb of Mexico, Gregory A. Richard and wife, Kathleen, of Dixfield, and Karin Poblete and husband, Audie, of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Irene Gallant and husband, Ivon, of Rumford, and Marilyn “Susie” Fournier and husband, Roger, of Mexico; a brother, Donald Richard and wife, Joyce, of New Sharon; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Olivette; a son, Keith; sisters, Belle and Blondie; and brothers, Omar, Leonard, Maurice and Eddie.
