NORWAY — Town Manager David Holt told selectmen Thursday evening that he has met with a couple of applicants for code enforcement officer.
Code Enforcement Officer Joelle Corey-Whitman recently announced she was hired for the same position in Oxford.
“Joelle is still helping us to some degree while we look for a new (code enforcement officer),” Holt said. “We ran an advertisement in the Sunday newspaper, as well as the Maine Municipal Association website. As a result, we had some applications coming in.”
Holt said he’s “giving an awful lot of thought” to the hiring process and “trying to figure out what’s best for the town at this stage.”
“Some of the applicants are fully certified, and others would need to be trained,” he said. “There are two or three really strong candidates in there. I met with a couple already, and I’m meeting with another one on Monday.”
He said he’d “like to think we’ll have a nominee before the board by the time you guys meet next, but we’ll just have to see how it goes.”
In other business, selectmen unanimously voted to accept $1,454 in gifts, reimbursements and donations from several organizations:
• $200 from the Fryeburg Fair Association to be used for fire prevention;
• $100 from 100 Aker Wood Frame Shop to be used for the town’s electric-charging station;
• $100 from the Oxford Group to be used for Fire Department training;
• $44 from Sandy Curfman to be used toward protective clothing for the Norway Fire Department; and
• A $1,010 Employee Wellness Grant from the Maine Municipal Association.
