NORWAY — Several Oxford Hills businesses and organizations will participate in the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, Feb. 3 to 5.
The Great Outdoor Maine Weekend consists of a series of events led by outdoor-oriented organizations and companies to help “connect our friends and neighbors with the natural world, to promote fun, physical activity, and good health,” according to its website.
The Western Foothills Land Trust is organizing two events: a snowshoe hike up Hawk Mountain in Waterford from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, and a 3.5-kilometer snowshoe hike at Roberts Farm Preserve in Norway from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 4.
Those who need snowshoes can call the Trust at 207-739-2124 at least two days before the event.
In Norway, the Bruce Fox Memorial Ice Rink will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3. The rink on Cottage Street is dedicated to the resident who maintained the rink from 1994 to 2015.
Parks and Recreation Director Debra Partridge said ice skates are available at the New Balance warming hut at no charge. There will be a bonfire nearby.
Hot chocolate, coffee and popcorn will be available, and a “potluck munchie table” will be set up near the ice rink, she said. Those attending are welcome to bring a healthy snack for the potluck.
