The Sebago Lake Rotary Club, organizers of the event, from moving forward with their annual Ice Fishing Derby on February 25th & 26th of this year. The Club’s Grand Prize will be a Polaris 450 HO ATV purchased from Woody’s Performance Center with Windham Indoor Shooting Range and Windham Weaponry generously sponsoring the $100,000 Maine Record Togue prize.
Derby organizers are working hand-in-hand with Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to create a notification policy which would allow for timely announcements of Derby related updates, including delays or cancellation. They are also partnering to create standards to ensure the safety of all involved including fishermen, the Sheriff’s Dept, Maine IF&W, and fire rescue personnel. The Derby has been cancelled twice in its 17 years, in 2002 & 2016, as well as cancellation of day one or day two due to blizzard conditions or unsafe ice.
There will be an Early Registration Prize Pool for those registering online prior to February 8th. There will also be a local registration event from 5pm-8pm at the Deckhouse Tavern and Sports Bar in Windham on Wednesday, Feb. 8. There will be special prizes and giveaways for all who register that evening.
Also, the highly attended Kittery Trading Post’s Kids’ Derby will be held Saturday March 4 at Range Pond where the first 500 children to arrive will receive a free tip-up (fishing rig).
Club organizers of these events are hopeful that this winter will provide safe ice conditions for all. FMI and to register go to icefishingderby.com or ktpkidsderby.com
