AUBURN — A 35-year-old man from Greene was behind bars Tuesday, accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old autistic girl a week before Christmas.
Travis Therrien, of College Street, was arrested on a warrant early Saturday morning when police stopped his car a short distance from his home.
Therrien is charged with sexual abuse of a minor.
Investigators said that on Dec. 18, the 14-year-old Auburn girl ran away from home and was picked up by Therrien, who took her to his house and sexually abused her during the evening.
According to friends of the girl’s family, the teen left Therrien’s house the following morning and was later able to identify him as well as the interior of his home.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case.
After his arrest, Therrien was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn where he was being held on $5,000 cash bail.
In 2008, Therrien was ordered to pay $86,000 in restitution and served one year in jail after being convicted of aggravated criminal mischief. In June of that year, he was drinking at a bar in Carrabassett Valley and walked across the street to the airport and started a Cessna in full throttle.
The plane was tied down but pulled away from its tie-downs and crashed into another Cessna at the Carrabassett Valley Airport, heavily damaging both planes.
Therrien also has convictions for operating under the influence.
After Therrien’s most recent arrest, police are asking that anyone with information contact Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Detective Thomas Slivinski at 753-2567.
