WILTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host a free workshop, “Essentials of College Planning,” for adults 19 and older at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Wilton CareerCenter, 865 U.S. Route 2 East.

Benefit for River Valley cancer patient
RUMFORD — A benefit for Nick Goff will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Rumford Eagles Hall, 13 Oxford Ave. The event will include a silent auction, dinner and dance.
The silent auction will begin at noon. A night at a Harrison cabin will be up for grabs.
A pasta dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m.
For the dance, Melanie Jordan will sing from 7 to 8 p.m, and Fat N Jacked will perform at 8 p.m.
The cost for the dinner is $7; the dance is $10 per person; and $15 will admit one person to both events.
Proceeds will help Goff and his family with medical bills associated with his cancer treatment.
Mt. Blue Rec Cheering exhibition
FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue Rec Cheering will host the annual exhibition at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Mt. Blue High School.
The cheerleaders will perform their routines for the public for the first time before beginning competitions.
Mt. Blue Rec Cheering has four teams: Rising Stars, for pre-kindergartners to second-graders; Shooting Stars, second- to fourth-graders; Shining Stars, fourth- to sixth-graders; and Super Stars sixth- to eighth-graders.
The Mt. Blue High School cheerleaders and University of Maine at Farmington will also perform.
Doors will open for spectators at 9 a.m. Admission will be $3 for children and $5 adults.
SeniorsPlus in Norway
NORWAY — Representatives from SeniorsPlus will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns community members may have about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families.
The visit will be from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at the Town Office.

UMF student presenting to Society
FARMINGTON — Farmington Historical Society will meet Monday, Jan. 23, in the University of Maine at Farmington Roberts Learning Center’s third-floor geography lab.
A potluck will be served at 6 p.m., and the meeting will follow.
UMF student Layne Nason will present his project, “Farmington Historic Maps Overlay.”
Everyone is welcome.
Oxford Democrats to elect officers
BETHEL — The Oxford County Democrats will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29,in the cafeteria of Crescent Park School on Crescent Lane.
The snow date will be Sunday, Feb. 5.
The Committee will hold elections for county officers: chair, vice chair, treasurer, secretary and chair’s alternate to the State Committee.
Only members of the County Committee are eligible to vote, but anyone interested in electing Democrats is welcome to attend. Members of the County Committee were elected at the 2016 caucuses or at municipal meetings.
There will be an opportunity to fill vacancies before the start of the Jan. 29 meeting. Nominations for the county officers positions may be announced in advance or taken from the floor. Any candidate who wishes to provide advance information to the group may contact info@oxforddems.org by Jan. 23.
