1953 – 2017
LEWISTON — Penny Sue Forrest Myrick, 53, of Auburn passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, at Central Maine Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Lewiston on March 1, 1963, to Nancy Carroll Forrest Hutchinson and the late Richard Forrest. Penny was educated in Auburn Schools, graduating from Edward Little in 1981. After high school, she attended CMVTI where she earned her associate degree in architectural and civil engineering. Penny worked for Harriman for more than 20 years.
On Aug. 7, 1987, Penny married Jim Myrick and they settled into their lives in Auburn. Penny and Jim’s lives changed for the best in 1992 – with a son, Casey Robert Myrick and in 1995 with daughter Brittany Lauren Myrick. Penny’s greatest love was for her family, but especially Casey and Brittany. She would go to the ends of the earth for their happiness, which in turn brought her the greatest joy. Whether it was driving countless hours every weekend to see Casey ski race. Or spending a long exhausting day looking at colleges with Brittany. She did it all for her children, and was so proud of their accomplishments. She instilled in them her passion for life and enduring determination as she encouraged them to attain their greatest goals in life.
Although her illness was long and grueling, no matter the day, Penny always had a smile on her face. Her smile was contagious to others, and she could make anyone forget about a bad day. She taught everyone around her exactly what strength, courage and resilience meant as she battled this beast with grace each and every day for more than three years.
Penny is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Casey and Brittany; and grandchild, Zayden; mother, Nancy Hutchinson and stepfather, Robert Hutchinson, of Auburn; brother, Scott Hutchinson and wife, Megan, of Wisconsin; stepbrother, Glenn Hutchinson and wife, Tammie, of Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Jerry Myrick and wife, Paula, of Minot; brother-in-law, John Myrick and wife, Deb, of Gardiner; father-in-law, Bruce Myrick and wife, Rita, of Sabattus; many aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, Richard Forrest.
Thank you to all of our family and friends for their unwavering love and kindness. A very special thanks to Penny’s angels on earth, her best friends; Monique Weber, Kristi Norcross and Barbie Campbell. She was a beautiful soul gone much too soon.
