MONMOUTH — Oak Hill took over in the second half to claim a 61-59 boys’ basketball victory over Monmouth on Monday.
The Raiders trailed by six points in the third quarter before catching fire and leading by as many as seven points in the second half. Colten Donnell was particularly hot, scoring all 14 of his points after halftime.
The Mustangs fought back and even had a free throws to tie the game with no time remaining, but couldn’t convert.
Darryn Bailey led Oak Hill (4-2) with 18 points. Marcus Bailey added 16 and Evan Boston had 10.
Monmouth (0-7) was led by Hunter Richardson’s 18 points, while Avery Amero chipped in 14 and Travis Hartford contributed 11.
Girls’ basketball
Monmouth 61, Oak Hill 46
WALES — The Monmouth girls’ basketball team pulled away from Oak Hill in the third quarter en route to a 61-46 win Monday.
The Mustangs turned a 22-20 halftime lead into a 10-point advantage, 43-33, after three quarters. They then added five more points to the lead by outscoring the Raiders 18-13 in the final period.
Monmouth (6-2) was paced by Tia Day’s 17 points. Abby Allen contributed 13 points and Hannah Anderson finished with 11.
Abby Nadeau led Oak Hill (3-3) with 15 points. Desirae Dumais finished with 13 points, and Brianna Mulherin put up 10.
Boys’ hockey
Scarborough 6, Thornton 2
LEWISTON — Mason Parks assisted on the first three goals in Scarborough’s 6-2 win over Thornton Academy in boys’ hockey action at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Monday.
Parks helped set up goals by Justin Perry, Egan Bradish and Kyle Jacques as the Thunder took a 3-0 lead over the Trojans in the second period.
Brett Rockey, Skylar Pettingill and Eric Murray also scored for Scarborough.
Evan Balzano and Luke Chase scored Thornton’s goals.
Scarborough faces Edward Little at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Wednesday.
Massabesic/Old Orchard Beach/Bonny Eagle 4, Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester 1
GORHAM — Massabesic/Old Orchard Beach/Bonny Eagle earned its first boys’ ice hockey win of the season, beating the Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester Kings 4-1 at the University of Southern Maine Ice Arena on Monday.
Brandon Caron scored one goal and assisted on two others for the MOB (1-4). Travis Marsh, Cameron Roy and Tanner McClure also had goals for victors.
Drake Goupil tallied the Kings’ (1-1-1) lone goal, scoring off an assist by Connor Cyr.
