1933 – 2016

BELFAST — The Rev. John P. Miller, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, departed this life peacefully and has entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, Dec. 24.

John was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Cambridge, Mass., to John S. and Marguerite (Preston) Miller. He attended high school in Reading, Mass., the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Episcopal Theological Seminary in Cambridge, earning his master’s of divinity degree. He married the love of his life, Barbara M. Crouse on Sept. 8, 1956.

He served at St. Philip’s in Holyoke, Mass., Holy Trinity in Southbridge, Mass., St. John’s in Bangor, and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Middletown, Conn. He and his wife continued their ministry together at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Readfield, and St. Mark’s in Waterville after their retirement to Maine.

In 2004, John and Barbara moved to Pawley’s Island, S.C., where they often served together at Holy Cross/Faith Memorial in Pawley’s Island until Barbara’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in 2007. John was devoted to her until her death in 2013.

John will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Robin Johnson and her husband, Joe, of Waterville; three sons, Geoffrey Miller of Penobscot, Chris Miller and his wife, Carol, of Hermon, and Peter Miller and his wife, April Clark, of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Mike and Matt Johnson, Cleo and Wyatt Miller, Sean Griffiths and his partner, Brittany Berthiaume, and Scott Griffiths and his wife, Amy; and five great-grandchildren, Savannah, Easton, Ryder, Dawson and Bryson Griffiths.
