LEEDS — Ice caused a Pan Am train carrying supplies to a Rumford mill to derail Monday night in Leeds, blocking Blue Rock Road, according to officials.
The accident happened just before midnight.
Pan Am Railways Executive Vice President Cynthia Scarano said no one was hurt and that there was no damage to the locomotive. She said a crane was brought in to tow the diesel-powered locomotive, which weighs about 160,000 pounds.
Pan Am is the largest freight operator in Maine, with about 380 employees and 1,700 miles of track stretching from the New Hampshire border to Canada and west to Rumford. The locomotive was headed there to pick up freight cars.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
