POLAND — Top Gun owner Joe Cimino confirmed to WCSH Channel 6 on Thursday that his Maine Street shop sold the gun to Daniel Randall last week that Randall used to kill his daughter, Claire, in Hebron before turning it on himself.
WCSH is reporting that Randall bought the gun at noon Thursday, Dec. 8, after leaving an alcohol treatment facility, the same day as the murder. Randall passed a full FBI background check at Top Gun.
“I’ve thought about it, is there something else we could have done?” Cimino said in a video Channel 6 posted online. “If there was any indication, if his eyes twitched too much . . . but in this case, this was so milquetoast in terms of being a classic customer. Wanted to know a little information about a firearm, wasn’t in a hurry.”
Reached at his shop, Cimino said he wasn’t giving any more interviews on Thursday.
Randall, a former Rhode Island pastor, broke into his former home on Marshall Pond Road last Thursday, shot his daughter in the bathroom, spray-painted messages around the house and shot himself on the porch, according to police.
Earlier this week, police said they were reviewing the death of Randall’s pregnant first wife, Greta, who died in a fall at Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth in 1993. The boy she was carrying was born three months premature and died the following day, according to information from the First Parish Congregational Church in Saco, where Daniel Randall was pastor at the time.
