St. Dominic Academy went 9-9 last season and made a somewhat surprising run to the Class C playoffs, during which the Saints upset Dirigo in the first round and reached the region quarterfinals.

They did all that with a young squad of no seniors. Therefore, they didn’t lose any players to graduation. However, they still find themselves in unfamiliar territory on a few fronts. First, they’re brand new members of the Western Maine Conference, wherein they’ll face Class B stalwarts such as Gray-New Gloucester and Lake Region. Second, they have a new coach, Chris Marston.

A trip back to Augusta remains the goal. To attain that, St. Dom’s is counting on Chloe Dwinell and Allie Veinote to have productive senior seasons and to lead the Saints through a gauntlet of new foes.

Marston also said dependable backcourt production is needed from junior Caroline Gastonguay and promising freshman Rebecca Zimmerman.
