TURNER — Selectmen this week awarded the Boston Post Cane to Phyllis Richardson, 97, the town’s oldest resident.

Richardson, the town’s 38th recipient of the award, was presented a replica of the original cane and a dozen red roses.

Richardson, who turned 97 on Nov. 27, has lived in Turner all of her life on the land her grandparents settled. Her parents had six girls and three boys.

With her husband, Harland Richardson Sr., she raised six children and welcomed 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

According to Richardson’s grandson, Rick Conant, she is “sharp.” Conant said she often engages in lively conversations about politics, current events and sports. She plays bingo and is an enthusiastic fan of the Boston Celtics, he said.

“But most of all, my grandmother is very loved,” Conant said.
