RUMFORD — The Board of Selectmen will hold an executive session Tuesday and possibly name of the new town manager, Chairman Jeff Sterling announced at Thursday night’s meeting.

“We’re very close,” Sterling said. “It’s just down to the nuts and bolts, settling on the language.”

The candidate is from Maine, he said.

Selectmen will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. Tuesday and, depending on where they’re at, hope to name the person, Sterling said.

The initial contract, per the town charter, would be for one year, with an additional six months before a decision is made on another contract.

The town contracted with David Barrett, director of personnel services and labor relations for the Maine Municipal Association, to assist with finding candidates for the position.

There were 29 applicants, with six of them scheduled for interviews by the board. However, before the interviews commenced, three candidates removed themselves from consideration.

In October, Sterling was hoping to hired someone by Nov. 1 and work with Town Manager John Madigan, who is retiring the end of the year.

In other business, selectmen unanimously:

• Approved a bid of $7,800 from Morgan Concrete of Rumford for work on the Fire Station drain.

• Approved a bid of $660 from Smith & Town Printers of Berlin, New Hampshire, for 300 copies of the annual town report.

• Approved a taxicab license renewal for Mountain Valley Taxi Service.
