PARIS — Bail was set at $5,000 cash, or $500 with a Maine pretrial contract, for a Waterford man charged with head-butting and choking a woman and denying the assault took place.

Justin Perry Stanton, 33, was arrested Sunday morning and charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence assault and obstructing the report of a crime or injury.

According to an affidavit by Oxford County Deputy Joshua Daley, a 911 hang-up call was received from a home in Waterford. Daley wrote that a man who refused to give his name or location said the call was an accident and there was no emergency.

When Daley called back, he wrote, the man identified himself as Justin Stanton and repeatedly yelled that there was no emergency and that he didn’t need any cops to show up.

“While on the phone with Stanton, I could hear a female voice in the background yelling, ‘Stop it; don’t do that,’” Daley wrote.

Shortly after speaking with Stanton, Daley said dispatch received a second phone call from a friend of the alleged victim who claimed that Stanton had been drinking, had assaulted the victim and was “threatening to murder them all.”

Daley wrote in the affidavit that he arrived at Stanton’s home around 2 a.m. He wrote that Stanton claimed nothing was going on, and admitted to drinking.

“I observed scratch marks and abrasions on both of (Stanton’s) arms,” Daley wrote. “I asked Stanton where the marks came from, and he said he did it to himself. He continued to deny assaulting anyone.”

Daley said he spoke with the alleged victim, who claimed Stanton had been abusing his medication, a stimulant used to control attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

The victim reported that she had been head-butted and choked by Stanton, and that she had scratched Stanton’s forearms while she was being choked.

Daley wrote that the victim said she put Stanton in a head-lock shortly before police arrived.
