FARMINGTON — Healthy Community Coalition is offering free assistance for individuals who need to sign up for health insurance or need to re-enroll in a health insurance plan via the federal marketplace.

Open enrollment for 2017 is now underway and runs through Jan. 31. Healthy Community Coalition, through a grant from the Maine Health Access Foundation, has staff trained as certified navigators to assist individuals step by step through the enrollment and re-enrollment process.

Eligible individuals younger than 65 must be enrolled in a health plan by the end of open enrollment or pay a penalty. Individuals currently enrolled in a marketplace health plan for 2016 will need to re-enroll for 2017. Re-enrollment allows an individual to update information, review plan options and chose the right plan for their health care needs.

To help accommodate individual’s schedules, sign up assistance will be provided at multiple locations throughout Franklin County. In addition, some early morning, evening and weekend hours will be offered.

Appointments can be made any time at the Healthy Community Coalition office in Farmington during open enrollment. Locations and times are:

• Monday, Dec. 5, Stratton Community Building, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.;
