Class A state championship

North No. 1 PORTLAND (9-1) vs. South No. 1 BONNY EAGLE (10-0)

Saturday, 11:06 a.m.

This title game will be played at the home of the Bulldogs, and a place that Bonny Eagle coach Kevin Cooper has made feel like home, winning five titles in five tries. Both time like to run, but will pass effectively when they have to. Likely will come down to a few key defensive stops.

Class B state championship

North No. 1 BRUNSWICK (10-0) vs. South No. 1 KENNEBUNK (11-0)

One of these teams was the odds-on favorite to get here. The other was an odds-against qualifier. Still, the Rams have just as many losses this season as the dominant Dragons, and showed going through Class B South that they are hard to knock down. Brunswick is hoping to avoid three title-game losses in three years. The Rams lost the title the year before that.

Class C state championship

North No. 1 MOUNT DESERT ISLAND (9-1) vs. South No. 2 WELLS (10-1)

Saturday, 2:36 p.m.

The Warriors are looking for their first Class C title, after winning two in Class B, the most recent in 2011. The Trojans are looking for their first title, in any class, ever. Wells’ big-game experience might be an advantage, but MDI just knocked off two-time defending champ Winslow in the regional final. A lot of unknown, which only adds to the intrigue.

Class D state championship

North No. 1 MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE (11-0) vs. South No. 2 LISBON (8-1)

Saturday, 6:06 p.m.

The Huskies must be happy they aren’t facing Oak Hill this year after consecutive losses in the state final. But Lisbon presents a new and different challenge. This is a matchup of power (Lisbon) versus speed (MCI), with dog nicknames on both sides. It being Lisbon coach Dick Mynahan’s last game will only add to the Greyhounds’ fire.
