RUMFORD — The Board of Selectmen on Thursday approved a $192,585 fuel bid from C.N. Brown of Paris. The contract is for 2016-17.
The board also approved a request from EnvisionRumford for a letter of support for a broadband technology grant application by the River Valley Chamber of Commerce. There would be no financial obligation to the town.
Jennifer Kreckel and Mia Purcell of EnvisionRumford said the grant is to explore the possibility of better technology, including WiFi in the downtown area.
In other business, Fire Chief Bob Chase announced his department is participating with the River Valley Chamber of Commerce at the Christmas in the Valley Parade on Friday, Dec. 9. He said the station will be open for children to meet with Santa. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served.
At the Oct. 20 meeting of EnvisionRumford, member Kris Howes said the parade was canceled last year because of a lack of participation. He said it would be held if at least 10 floats are entered. To date, Howes said he knows of six groups that will have a float.
Also Thursday, Selectman Jim Windover said residents told him of four streetlights that are not working.
“Any time you see a street light out, call the Town Office,” Town Manager John Madigan said.
Executive Secretary Terri Palmer said residents can report a problem streetlight by going to the town website, rumfordme.org, and click on “How Do I …” and “Report Problem with Streetlights.” The completed form will be directed to Central Maine Power.
