BETHEL — The Bethel Fire Station will hopefully have a new furnace installed by the end of next week, Fire Chief Mike Jodrey said.

The cost of the furnace is $14,512.

The Board of Selectmen approved the purchase Thursday evening, and Town Manager Christine Landes will sign the contract.

The money will come from the Fire Department’s maintenance and repair line, which will cause an overdraft. The overdraft issue will be presented to voters at a town meeting scheduled for July 2017.

The old boiler was approximately 13 years old and cracked. Repairing the crack was unsuccessful, Jodrey said.

The new unit will be a Buderus G315, made of cast iron with a combustion efficiency of up to 88.2 percent.
