AUBURN — The Auburn Police Department on Sunday shared some tips to keep everyone safe this Halloween.

The department advises children to trick or treat with a grown-up, visit houses that are well-lit, wear bright or reflective clothing, carry a flashlight, wait to eat treats until a trusted adult has said it’s safe and be careful when crossing sidewalks and roads.

“Be aware that young children and adults will be out on Halloween night,” Chief Phil Crowell said. “Drivers need to slow down and watch for pedestrians. By the same token, pedestrians must use the crosswalks and pay attention.”

Last but not least, the APD advises everyone to designate a sober driver. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over half of all 2015 highway fatalities across the nation on Halloween night involved a driver with a blood-alcohol rate of 0.08 or higher.
