What is the most pressing problem in your district and what do you plan to do about it?
The most serious problem facing our district and the balance of the state is debt, and too many out of work, or low paid people paying the bills. We’ve lost the handle of fiscal control and responsibility.
Gov. Paul LePage wants to eliminate the state income tax. Do you support that? If not, why not?
I do support it. Maine is lacking good, high paying jobs, and we need to be attracting business and investment capital to the state (See #1 problem response). Lowering the tax burden will help achieve this.
Are you willing to support raising the fuel tax to fix Maine roads? If not, why not?
No! Every time we adopt a “new” tax for a “new” specific purpose it ends up being dumped into the general revenue pot of gold for other special projects.
The relationship between the governor and the Legislature has deteriorated over the past six years. What can the Legislature do to improve that relationship?
Use civil communication, rather than antagonistic challenges to deliberately stir up the emotions. Some of the legislative body are hiding behind the skirts of flamboyant showy dialogue.
What methods do you support to reduce opiate addiction in Maine?
Within limits, I would advocate the use of any medication that could safely be utilized to aid in saving lives, e.g. the overdose antidote Naloxone. The use of this medication should not be used as an enabler, nor without cost to the abuser. We all need to pay our way.
