WEST PARIS — Selectmen on Thursday tabled a junkyard permit application from Kalvin Mason because the town revoked his permit earlier this year for not complying with its conditions.
“He is under investigation by (the Maine Department of Environmental Protection) and we don’t need to go through with this,” Board of Selectmen Chairman Dennis Henderson said.
It was not clear why the state is looking into Mason Restoration, Mason’s junkyard at 21 Briggs St. It is near the Little Androscoggin River and Andrews Brook.
In other business, Town Manager Wade Rainey said the town’s share of bridging the river for a timber cut on the town woodlot is $4,800.
“This seems like a fair way to do it,” he said. The work was necessary to get to about 15 acres of timber worth over $16,000.
Rainey said the town has realized about $87,000 so far from the cuts.
An auction of surplus material brought in $2,040 for the Equipment Reserve Account.
The board also discussed seeding and mulching the ball field off Main Street this weekend by Henderson and at least one other volunteer.
