NORTH BERWICK — The Rangeley boys’ soccer team is coming alive at the right time.

Winners of only five regular-season games, the Lakers continued their tear through the Class D South playoffs Tuesday with a 6-1 romp over Seacoast Christian.

“I think the boys started playing their game,” Rangeley coach Danielle Ellis said. “We started keeping the ball on the ground, and we kept our heads about us when we got behind early.”

Rangeley (7-7-2) allowed the first goal of the game before running off six unanswered goals — four in the first half and two in the second. Carl Trafton netted a pair, as did Ricky Thompson. Nathan Van Buren and Leo Perez each notched single tallies.

Zac Trafton added a pair of assists for the Lakers, and was also part of the team’s goaltending tandem, stopping six shots. Hunter Lowell made a pair of saves for Rangeley, as well.

Caleb La Croix had Seacoast’s only goal top open the scoring in the first half, and Brandon Vachon stopped nine shots in the loss.

Yarmouth 2, Gray-NG 0

YARMOUTH — Michael Dostie broke a scoreless deadlock with a goal in the final minute of the first half, and fellow captain Luke Groothoff added another in the second half to lead the No. 2 Yarmouth Clippers to a 2-0 win over No. 7 Gray-New Gloucester in the teams’ Class B South boys’ soccer quarterfinal on Tuesday.

The win advances the Clippers to the semifinal round, where they will host Greely at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Women’s soccer

Bates 2, Colby 1, OT

WATERVILLE — Senior Hannah Graves produced a thrilling end to the Bates women’s soccer team’s season as well as her college career.

Graves’ goal in the second overtime gave the Bobcats a 2-1 win over Colby on Tuesday.

With 3:43 remaining in the second overtime — the game’s 107th minute — Bates sophomore Olivia Amdur lofted a long shot from the left side that deflected off the crossbar and out to Torri Pelletier on the right side of the box. Pelletier sent the ball to a charging Graves, who drilled a low shot past a defender for the game-winner.

The goal is Graves’ fifth of the season. She finishes the season as the Bobcats’ leader in goals and assists (14).

The win is Bates’ (5-9-1, 1-8-1) first in NESCAC play.

Junior Hannah Behringer gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 30th minute. Colby’s Aliza Van Leesten tied the game 10 minutes later.

Women’s volleyball

Bates 3, Husson 0

LEWISTON — The Bates women’s volleyball team made quick work of Husson, taking less than an hour to dispatch the Eagles, 3-0 (25-5, 25-7, 25-6), on Tuesday.

Bobcats senior Chandler McGrath had 18 kills with one error on 26 attempts for a .654 attack percentage. Sophomore Reilly Murphy added six kills and three blocks, and first-year Samantha Schecter pitched in a season-high five kills with no errors on 11 attempts (.455).

Bates improves to 9-13 with the win, while Husson falls to 14-14. The Bobcats host Hamilton on Friday at 8 p.m. in a match that could determine the eighth and final seed in next week’s NESCAC championship tournament.
