UPDATE: Lisbon looks forward to Donald Trump rally | Donald Trump now coming to Lisbon at 3 p.m.
LISBON — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is scheduled to be in town Friday.
Trump plans a public rally at 4 p.m. at the Open Door Christian Academy gymnasium. The doors will open at 1 p.m. The Fire Department is limiting the crowd to 1,000.
The school’s secretary, Pauline Newton, said administrators there don’t know anything more than the date and time that Trump’s campaign posted on his website.
“We really haven’t had a chance to think about it yet,” she said. “It’s still pretty normal here.”
Trump’s visit will be his fifth to Maine, including one in Bangor on Oct. 15. He’s aiming to grab the single electoral vote available to the winner of the presidential vote in the 2nd Congressional District, which pollsters say is up in the air.
Trump is trailing in most national polls, but is working hard to shore up support in areas where he’s locked in a competitive race with Democrat Hillary Clinton, including much of Maine.
Open Door Christian Academy is a ministry of Open Door Baptist Church in Lisbon at 26 Gartley St. It was founded in 2001.
Its website says, “We exist to assist parents in their God-given responsibility of educating their child by providing a high-quality spiritual and academic program, enhanced by athletics, while encouraging them to live disciplined, Christ-centered lives.”
Trump’s two oldest sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, have campaigned in the area in recent days.
Lisbon’s population is 9,009. It borders Lewiston to the southeast.
