LIVERMORE — Selectpersons on Tuesday night agreed to apply for a grant through the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to help upgrade culverts or stream crossings in the town.

Administrative Assistant Amy Byron said the maximum amount of the grant is $95,000. The application deadline is Jan. 17, 2017. The grants will be awarded in March. If approved, the town would have up to two years to complete the project.

There is no mention of any matching funds listed, she said.

Chairman Mark Chretien said it could be used for capital road improvement projects. He suggested that Highway Foreman Roger Ferland research the grant, and that the Road Committee determine where the greatest need is.

One possibility is a culvert on River Road, Ferland said.

The town raised $330,000 for road improvements in 2016.
