Buckle up: There’s more coffee coming.

Two years after plans were announced for a new Aroma Joe’s on Center Street in Auburn, site work has started.

Site developer Todd Miranda said Thursday he expects construction to wrap by the end of January. 

The new project’s located on the site of a former gas station next to Margaritas at 166 Center St. It’s going to be 3,000 square feet, with Aroma Joe’s taking up half of it.

“There isn’t a tenant for the second spot yet; we’re considering a few options,” Miranda said. “We’re going to wait until the building gets up. I think we’re going to have a lot better options because it’s a good-looking building.”

Aroma’s plans were made and announced long before Krispy Kreme just down the road, where site work is also underway.

“Coffee is the most popular beverage there is,” Miranda said. “All these places seem to do fairly well.”

New owners

DMT Industrial Floors has a new owner: Capozza Tile & Floor Covering Center announced Thursday it bought the 31-year-old Lewiston company.

One of DMT’s specialties is residential and commercial concrete floor with epoxy finishes, decorative surfaces and staining, something Capozza hadn’t installed.

“We did wood, cork, tile, porcelain, stone and carpeting but concrete wasn’t a land that we had any specialty in, so when we wanted to expand a little bit, it was great to find this company that really, really knows what they’re doing,” said spokeswoman Theresa Rosmus. “They have a fantastic product; they have great workers and their core really lined up with all of our values.”

Capozza is headquartered in Portland and now has four locations, including Lewiston. The former DMT management and crew, which numbered under 10, will stay on with the new company. (Fun fact: DMT stood for Damaged Masonry Technicians.)

Rosmus said the purchase didn’t trigger a signage change at 25 Dumais Ave. because there had been no sign, “but there will be.”

The essay contest announced by Eric Agren this summer to give away the popular French restaurant Fuel wrapped this week, with paper entries due by Oct. 14 and online applications by Oct. 17.

Now, we wait.

On Thursday, Agren said he hadn’t received the final tallies on the number of essays received yet.
