WEST PARIS — Residents voted at a special town meeting Oct. 13 to elect Mike Grass to the Board of Selectmen, Town Manager Wade Rainey said Wednesday.
Grass replaces Peter Collette, who resigned position in September but did not give a reason.
Rainey said this is the first time Grass has served on the board. He previously was on the Planning Board.
In other business, Rainey said the town has accepted two grants.
A $15,000 grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation will allow the West Paris Fire Department to purchase imaging cameras; a $17,500 grant from the Maine Historic Preservation Commission will go to the West Paris Public Library.
Selectmen also approved junkyard permits for Ernest Yap, who operates West Paris Metals at 36 Maple St., and Frank Perham, who operates Route 219 Garage and Auto Sales at 1 Dunham Road.
Calvin Mason of Mason Restoration also submitted an application for a junkyard permit, but selectmen tabled it, Rainey said.
“They said that they needed to have a hearing, and wanted a chance to review the application,” Rainey said.
