FARMINGTON — The cause of a fast-moving fire that destroyed a home at 877 Whittier Road on Tuesday morning is undetermined because of the destruction, Fire Rescue Capt. Tim “TD” Hardy said Wednesday.
Owners Chris and Pam Boyker Smith and their six children lost everything except what they had with them. A boy who stayed home from school because he was sick was able to get dogs and a kennel of puppies out of the house with the help of hunters passing by.
Jyss Beaudreault of Farmington, a family friend, set up a GoFundMe page to assist the family. The American Red Cross of Maine also helped the family Tuesday.
The family had no homeowners insurance.
At this time, the family is overwhelmed with donations of clothing, as there’s a lot to sort through and not much space to store everything, Beaudreault said Wednesday night.
Donations of toiletry items, size 4 diapers and dog food can be left at the Pawn Shop at 184 Farmington Falls Road in Farmington.
They are currently transitioning into a temporary residence, so they will also need items like towels, blankets, pillows, pots, pans and other household items, she said.
A simple donation of a few dollars to the GoFundMe page will help tremendously as they are now trying to find a mobile home to put on their property after everything is demolished, she said.
The GoFundMe link is www.gofundme.com/63j593ek.
