DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a skein of yarn or a part of one. It is Patons classic wool worsted and the color is Rosewood. I just need enough to finish a pair of socks. If anyone has some call me at (207)364-8339, thank you. — Lane McDonald, Rumford.

ANSWER: This is a fairly common brand of yarn carried by Jo-ann Fabrics and Crafts. This color is currently unavailable in the store in Auburn but it is possible to order it online and ship it to yourself or pick it up in the store. There are several websites that have this yarn for sale as well, you can check www.knitting-warehouse.com or www.yarnsupply.com. If any readers have this yarn and are willing to share with Lane, please call.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Lewiston Auburn Kiwanis Club is asking for help from your fabulous readers. We are conducting a shoe drive between now and Nov. 11 to raise funds to help support community programs for local youth. The Key Clubs at both St. Dominic Academy and Lisbon High School are assisting the Kiwanis Club with the project. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or even new shoes. If you have extra shoes in your closet, please box or bag them up. They can be dropped off at the following collection sites between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday: St. Dominic Academy (Auburn campus), 121 Gracelawn Road, Auburn; St. Dominic Academy (Lewiston campus), 17 Baird Ave., Lewiston; Lisbon High School, 2 Sugg Dr., Lisbon Falls.

In conjunction with Funds2Orgs, the club will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected. By donating your gently worn, used and new shoes to the Kiwanis Club, the shoes are given a second chance and will make a difference in people’s’ lives. We hope readers would like to donate their shoes to us to help those less fortunate become self-sufficient, and to also help the club raise funds for student scholarships, along with supporting several programs in the area that focus on children and youth. After the collection, all donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from their shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. People wishing to donate shoes can reach club president, Paul Gauvreau at (207)577-7298, or by emailing him at info@kiwanislewistonauburnmaine.org, or reach out to the club on Facebook. Many thanks to anyone kind enough to help! — Lewiston Auburn Kiwanis Club.
